Holkham Country Fair
British Stickmakers Guild
Trade Stand F3
Rosettes sponsored by Heart of England Craftworkers
The BSG was formed in 1984 by a small group of Stickmakers who felt that the many people practising this very old craft, usually entirely on their own, should be able to further their interests through a national organisation. Within the first year membership had grown to an astonishing 500, and continues to increase - we now also number many overseas members.
The main event of the year is the British National Stick show, which still follows the pattern of the first show in April 1985 when over 350 sticks were entered into 12 different classes. The BSG is also frequently invited to attend various events such as Country Fairs throughout the summer. The number that can be attended is limited by the modest resources of the Guild: our biggest event is the national competition at Chatsworth Country Fair, which has become the best-attended stickmaking competition in the country.
This year’s competition at Holkham has 16 classes and is a qualifier for the British and UK National Stickmaking Championship.
