Fly Casting Competitions, Demonstrations and Tuition

Organised by the Norfolk Branch of the Salmon & Trout Association

On the Lake

 

The competitions for you to try your hand at are:

Long Distance Salmon Fly Casting
Long Distance Trout Fly Casting
Dry Fly Accuracy with a Trout Rod
Wet Fly Speed with a Trout Rod

These competitions will continue throughout both days and you are invited to enter at the very nominal fee of £1 per adult / 50p child. There will be prizes for both adults and under 16s including the Fermoy Cup for the overall winner, and the Atlantic Salmon Trust Bronze Salmon for the member of Norfolk Branch of the Salmon & Trout Association who achieves the longest cast with a salmon rod. Novices are welcome to have a go.

A junior Victor Ludorum will be presented to the highest points scored by a junior who takes part in all 4 events as shown above. This will be “The Leo Temple-Richards Victor Ludorum Trophy”, presented by Mrs Temple-Richards in memory of Lt. Commander Leo Temple-Richards, the late President of the Norfolk branch.

We are holding a Casting Clinic for adults and children. All standards are welcome!

The Casting Demonstrations are being given this year by four of the best and well-known East Anglian Instructors: Philip Pledger, Tim Gaunt-Baker, Jim Gill and Mike Smith. They all hold various qualifications, G.A.I.C Level 2 and A.P.G.A.I., both in Salmon and Trout disciplines, and will be demonstrating various techniques with both double-handed and single-handed rods.

Jim will also be in a float tube up to his chest in water (weather permitting). They will all be on the Salmon & Trout stand for the duration of the show for questions, problems or just general chit-chat. Details of the clinic and the demonstrations are available from our stand.

All the events are being run by the Norfolk Branch of the Salmon & Trout Association. This branch is extremely active and, with a membership of about 1000, is the biggest branch in the country. Although we do not have a migratory run of game fish, we can offer good trout fishing at an affordable price on three stretches of river and one lake. The branch also runs fishing instruction courses for its members. Please enquire at our stand which is situated by the Lake.
